BEWARE: CONCERT TICKET BULLSHIT

First of all, this is not some sort of news story I'm posting from another source.  This is what I, Brad Krischel,  received in the mail 2 days ago.

Everyone who hates paying extra charges on concert tickets, please read this.  Ticket sale companies seem to be charging us for magazine subscriptions without informing us that they are doing so.

I recently received a postcard-like piece of mail that read as follows:

"Your recent www.livenation.com concert ticket purchase included a 1 year (57 issues) subscription to Entertainment Weekly Magazine (a $19.99 value).  You will not be billed for this subscription.

If you wish to opt-out of this incredible deal, simply go to www.ew.com/customerservice to cancel your subscription.

**In small print at the bottom it read as follows**
If you do not wish to receive the subscription to Entertainment Weekly Magazine, you can obtain a $19.99 refund by writing the word "REBATE", on this card and mailing it in an envelope to: Live Nation Rebate, Entertainment weekly, P.O. Box 60001, Tampa, FL 33550-0001.  Originals only, no photocopies.  Your rebate will be processed within 8 weeks of receipt of your request.  Rebate available only through Entertainment Weekly magazine."

It seems as if LiveNation in particular has some sort of deal with Entertainment Weekly Magazine and possibly other companies to add charges onto your tickets, and hope that people will continue the subscription once it runs out.  It is clear that they charged an extra $19.99 on my ticket because they are willing to refund that if I mail back in the card.

I probably would have just thrown away this piece of mail because it simply looks like junk mail, but for some reason I decided I would read it over because it was talking about a concert ticket purchase.  Hopefully, this will save someone else $19.99 unless you really like Entertainment Weekly Magazine.  Also, for everyone who hates all of the extra ticket charges like I do, I think this is probably good reason why all of these charges are starting to add up.  Companies are finding loop-holes to get more of your money through under-the-table deals with other companies.

Here is a link to a picture of the back of the post-card that I received:

Why hello wonderful world of xanga!  It has been far too long since I've seen your poop-brown color of my page!  I am going to try to start blogging a little bit more on here since this semester seems to be giving me a lot more free time.  Plus, I had a very inspirational day today.  This morning I got up at about 6 in the a.m. because on Monday night SIUE learned that Bill Clinton would be coming to speak Wednesday morning on behalf of his wife Hilary's campaign.  They sent out a campus-wide email on Monday night letting everyone know about it.  The downfall was that the event was taking place at 8:00 am and the doors would be opening at 7:30.  Now, I'm not too much of a morning person so this didn't sound like the most entertaining idea for my brain.  However, I weighed my options and decided I would go to it since opportunities like this don't come around too often.  I got in line at 6:30ish and stood outside in 10 degree weather for an hour.  The whole time I was standing there I was wondering if I was actually going to be allowed into the building because the capacity of the auditorium where they were having the event was pretty small.  They were only going to let in around 300-400 people from what I heard of the capacity, but hey, at least I was in front of these people:

I saw Holly Meyer walking around trying to find some people to interview for the newspaper, and I was highly impressed to see her phalanges could still function enough to scribble down some notes in the below freezing temperatures!  Finally, the doors opened and I took my seat. Eventually, Bill Clinton entered and gave his speech.

*Notice the Secret Service in front of the stage to the right and left.

I was very impressed with his speech, and it made me realize that  I have a big decision to make coming up on Tuesday.  I guess I've known for a long time that this decision was coming up, but the event really made me think things through basically all day today.  I've kind of been on the fence as far as who I am going to vote for.  I suppose I'll be making my final decision very soon, but I guess the purpose of this is whole post, if you're 18: VOTE!  This coming Tuesday is the day, so exercise your right to vote.  Hopefully, you'll be seeing more posts soon.

PS: If you haven't listened to the new Radiohead CD, which I'm sure most of you have if you have any interest in Radiohead, make sure you give it a listen.  It's tasty!
